If all you eat for the rest of your life is cereal you’re likely to encounter health related problems. If all you eat for the rest of your life is lettuce, you’ll likely encounter health problems too. Despite many nutritionists failing to understand it, we aren’t consuming only cereal or lettuce for the rest of our lives. The quality of our diet and its relationship with our health is entirely dependent on our entire diet of long periods of time. Therefore it is impossible for a specific food consumed at a single moment in time to be detrimental to any aspect of health, unless you’re allergic to it. When people say specific foods are good or bad, they don’t understand (or are purposefully ignoring) the context within an overall diet. This is rather silly. Functional medicine is not evidence based. Many of its ‘practitioners’ create or exaggerate problems and demonize processed food so they can ‘heal’ you with their line of (ironically hilarious) processed supplements. Trusting conventional medicine, eating a balanced diet rich in nutrients, including any food you enjoy and looking at the big picture are all much better ideas. #cereal #breakfast #nutrition

By swapping the drinks you would consume the same volume and achieve similar tastes and experiences, but you would save hundreds of thousands of calories each year. In fact, you would lose between 3.5 and 4.5 stone depending on metabolic adaptation. 02:04A quick reminder that carbs can be part of a balanced, supportive diet for any fitness goal. A low carb diet may be your preference, but it certainly isn’t necessary. Vegan diets are not necessarily more healthful than animal inclusive diets that include the additional nutrients and fibre in plants. Protein consumption in regular amounts doesn’t damage your kidneys. Carnivore diets obtain an abundance of nutrients from meat, but lack additional nutrients and fibre from plants. Plants are not toxic. Creatine monohydrate supplementation has been rigorously researched and found to have a plethora of benefits such as increase in lean mass and strength. It doesn’t make you bald. There will always be a diet camp trying to inflict their ideology onto you. The reality is there is no ‘best’ diet for health. They are not pure sugar. They are a satiating carbohydrate and a source of micronutrients. There is nothing wrong with eating bread. It isn’t bad for our health. Bread may not be as satiating as other foods, but it isn’t inherently harmful, nor does it make us fat. There is nothing wrong with eating fruit (or any food). Fruit doesn’t make us fat. It’s also a hugely dense source of micronutrients and fibre. There is nothing wrong with eating cereal. While some cereals aren’t particularly nutrient dense, that doesn’t make them inherently harmful. In 1960, nutrition advice appears to have considered context, been more sensible and evidence based. 01:30While whey protein is advertised everywhere as a ‘must have’ for building muscle, this isn’t necessarily the case. Whey protein, and other protein powders are cost effective, hugely convenient and protein dense, but when it comes to building muscle ordinary foods like lean meat, fish, eggs and dairy already do everything that whey protein does. That is because whey protein is also an ordinary food - a waste product from milk. If you struggle to consume enough protein from main meals, it can be an excellent (whey 😏) to hit your protein targets. Sourcing most of your protein from whole foods is practical, effective and wise. But supplementing with whey protein can allow you to top up protein levels quickly and conveniently without draining your wallet. 01:49Here are some interesting food facts you were perhaps unaware of: Kiwis have twice as much vitamin C compared to oranges. There is twice as much fibre (18.9g per 100g) in vanilla cheerios compared to fruit & fibre (9g per 100g). I was surprised at the difference here and half expected it to be a misprint. However, this is the case. There is the same amount of saturated fat in 30ml of olive oil (a primary unsaturated oil) as there is in 9 McNuggets and large fries combined. Many would assume these would be loaded with saturated fat, but they aren’t. There are more health promoting antioxidants in cherry tomatoes than regular tomatoes. Based on this information should we disregard some of these foods? The answer is no. Each food has many different components. While it may be more beneficial than other foods in certain attributes, it doesn’t mean the other food has to be disregarded, and vice versa. Food choices are not good or bad.
