Simon fished all night and caught not a single fish to provide for his family. But, then Jesus came along and told Him to toss his net back into the water. I can only imagine by this point that Simon is feeling tired, discouraged, and ready to give up. Despite the way Simon felt, this is the way he responded to Jesus, “And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” Essentially, he says Lord we’ve tried and tried and nothing has seemed to work, but I will trust you and throw the net back into the water. And, that’s exactly what we see. He had faith to trust Jesus and obeyed. Then, see what happens next. “And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.” Jesus performs a miracle and fills their net and boat to the point of an overflow. And, let’s ponder on this question for a moment. “Hayden, how much faith did Simon have in Jesus in order for Jesus to bless Simon with an overflow of fish?” Well, I can’t tell you exactly how much he had, but I can tell you how much he only needed. Faith ONLY the size of a mustard seed is all it would’ve taken! Matthew 17:20 - And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. My friend, Simon tried it his way and was left defeated and tired. But, when he listened and obeyed God’s instruction, he was blessed more than he would’ve ever imagined. I know you are tired. I know you are ready to give up, but try Jesus. Listen to Jesus’ instruction. Have faith in His word. Have faith in His way. There is only one way that leads to salvation. Only one way that leads to peace. Only one way that leads to freedom. Only one way that delivers you from the war in your mind. Only one way that will restore your marriage. Only one way that will lead you in righteousness. And, that way is only through Jesus. Friend, Jesus is asking you to toss the net back into the water and try again, but this time upon His instruction.
