Repetition compulsion is the name of the game when it comes to complex trauma healing. We're more prone to act out in regressive ways when we're stressed, overwhelmed, or triggered. As I'm entering my graduate level attachment trauma healing era, I've grown more appreciative of when I can notice myself repeating patterns. Its ok, its normal. I've stopped trying to excise these parts completely, cuz I know they'll just sneak out the sides in a different way. Instead, I'm building supports and scaffolds around these patterns so they can be contained and observed. When I keep smaller domains of my life available to nurture "regressive coping," I can keep learning about my needs, desires, and impulses.
