Congress has until Saturday to provide critical funding for child care in America to avoid going over the proverbial “cliff.” If we do go over the cliff, the effects will be devastating. Over time, it’s estimated that as many as 70,000 child care centers will have to shut down. Moms will, once again, be asked to pick up the slack and put their careers on hold. Hundreds of thousands of child care workers — a disproportionate number of whom are working moms themselves (and who are already underpaid) — will lose their jobs. And an estimated 3.2 million kids will lose out on early childhood care that we know is so critical for their health, their education, and even their eventual employment opportunities. And for those who think spending $16 billion to avoid this cliff is too pricey, think about the $10.6 billion states will lose in economic activity, or the $9 billion that parents will see in lost wages. (And that all pales in comparison to the $840 billion in lost economic output when women can’t participate fully in the labor force.) There's still time to get this done. Send a message to Congress right now and tell them to pass funding to avoid the child care cliff (link in my bio). . . . #childcare #childcarecliff #affordablechildcare #fixchildcare #momsfirst #momsoftiktok #mothers #moms #parents #daycare #dads #fathers #dadsoftiktok
