109 years ago, the world was plunged into chaos and brung forth a war so terrible it could only be eclipsed by the second world war. Both sides were caught in a stalemate and no major gains of land had been aquired. Months of digging trenches had taken place by young men of France, Germany, Belgians and English forces. Yet in all the despair and misery, a light in the darkness had shone. Accounts vary on who was singing first but on christmas eve, 1914 the trenches were filled with the song “silent night”. On christmas day, men who would have otherwise killed eachother stood up from the trenches and reportedly played a game of soccer (football) on no mans land. In a time where hostility is high, where wickedness is potent, this story still inspires hope, even if it can only be a dream. I wish each and every single one of you a merry Christmas. we shall not forget. Amen. #christmas #christmastruce
