Four flight attendants are accused of smuggling $8 million worth of drug money past the TSA onto flights and out of the country. Federal prosecutors say the four New York-based flight attendants used their lofty positions to run millions in drug money to the Dominican Republic as they worked their flights. "This investigation has exposed critical vulnerabilities in the airline security industry and has illuminated methods that narcotics traffickers are utilizing," said a federal official. The federal indictment alleges the flight crew members, at least two of whom work for Delta Airlines, smuggled a total of $8 million through so-called "known crewmember security lanes" at JFK Airport, which allowed them to bypass TSA security. The complaint calls it "an international narcotics trafficking, and money laundering operation involved in trafficking fentanyl by using flight attendants at major airlines to smuggle bulk quantities of cash." Investigators say a member of the ring recruited the flight attendants and then, when busted, rolled over on them, eventually ensnaring them in a sting while the feds were watching. Delta on Wednesday said it had suspended two employees pending an internal review. The airline says it "has cooperated fully with law enforcement in this investigation and will continue to do so." Delta is one of three airlines that fly from New York to the Dominican Republic, but it isn't clear where the other two suspects work. All of them are charged with felonies and could face up to a decade in federal prison. #flying #airtravel #news
00:33Author Luke Epplin was in a New York hospital as his wife was about to deliver their first born, when he had somewhat of an emergency himself. Even with nine months to get ready before the big day, Epplin wound up leaving the delivery room to get staples in his head. In a string of posts on "X" Epplin shared how he passed out, hit his head, and got a CAT scan. He believes he fainted because his wife went into labor while he was sleeping and he doesn't remember much after he was jerked awake. "When I woke up, I was on the floor, blood oozing from the back of my head. I'd hit my head on the edge of a metal table as I fell and cut a gash in it....They called the EMTs, had a stretcher come up, and whisked me to the emergency room," Epplin wrote. He says he had no form of identification and cell phone on him when he was taken to the emergency room. He was even in his pajamas. Once he was feeling better and all bandaged up, he was forced to sprint through a New York hospital to make it back to his wife's delivery room. "I flagged down a nurse and said rather frantically, 'My wife is in labor! I need to find her!' She took one look at me and said, 'I think you need to see security.' I said I didn't have time, but she escorted me out and firmly, but politely, dropped me off with a guard," Epplin continued. Epplin says the whole experience felt like something out of a romantic comedy. He ran through the hospital that he says "spanned many city blocks" in order to not miss the birth. Epplin was able to see his daughter arrive, with six new staples in his wrapped-up head. #birth #news #born

00:58Let's talk happiness for a minute, specifically, the happiness levels of our youngest working americans right now, Gen Z. Gallup recently released the results of a survey it conducted at the end of 2023 in which it surveyed those aged 12 to 26 years old. Generation Z consists of those born between 1997 and 2012. The survey asked different questions about their happiness and here's what it found. About a quarter of Gen Z reported themselves as a "very happy" person, while just under half said they were "somewhat happy." Then about another quarter said they were neither happy nor unhappy or "somewhat unhappy." The survey found that, as Gen Z gets older, they get more unhappy. What are the main drivers for Gen Z's happiness according to this survey? The most influential is a sense of purpose at work and school and nearly half of Gen Zers also said they don't feel what they do each day is interesting, important or motivating. Sleep and relaxation also rated highly influential. And the survey also found that Gen Zers who spend a lot of time comparing themselves to others are notably less likely than their peers to say they are happy. One of the most common traits among happy Gen Zers? Feeling loved, supported and connected to those around them. #genz #news #happy

00:46Residents across the Tri-State reported feeling shaking as an earthquake rocked the region Friday morning. The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed a magnitude 4.8 earthquake occurred near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey. New York City sustained no major impacts from the earthquake, though it was widely felt across the city, according to City Hall. The FDNY and NYPD both said there were no immediate reports of damage, but both agencies are monitoring the situation. The MTA reported just before 11 a.m. that there was no damage or service disruption to the New York City subway system. Con Edison said they have no reports of outages or damage. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said the epicenter was in Hunterdon County and the State Emergency Operations Center has been activated. The governor asked residents not to call 911 unless they have an actual emergency. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said her team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred. #earthquake #nyc #news
